The setting is very significant to the crime dramas.
Sherlock is set in Baker Street. Baker Street is a higher class part of London. It is a wealthy community, which could link to why Sherlock doesnt really need a job where he gets paid. That is why he sticks to his hobby of figuring out crimes. Higher class and maybe working class people would be able to relate to it much more as they are based more in the glamours city. Baker Street is portrayed as quite a safe place in the show. The portrayle would make the viwers feel like the area is safe. Because severe crimes had happened in London/Baker Street before (Jack the Ripper) more oppitunitys arrise for serial killers or continious happenings or threats for example Sherlock vs the Illumintati.
However, Luther is set in the urban area of London. You see many estates and tall housing buildings. It seems where Luther is based it is a Lower class area. It is a real portrayl of London and would be easy to more middle class and working class to relate to. Because estates are stereotyped with knife/gun crimes it is easier for crimes to be committed, for example when Luther had a fight with the criminal in a block of flats.
CSI Miami is different to Sherlock and Luther, this is because it looks so glamourous and perfect. The sun is always shinning there and everyone looks made up. This is what it seems anyway. The show is based in Long Beach California which is mainly surrounding by deserts. By using this setting it makes the story line and plots easier to plan. Fore xample where the murderer will dump the body.
